Who We Are

Rivendell is a haven set in Middle-earth, a fictional realm created by J.R.R. Tolkien, and is represented throughout his timeless literary classics like The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings narrative.  This beautiful and majestic place that's full of wonder is often referred to as the “Last Homely House,” signifying it as a sanctuary for all from the world's uncertainty and evil.  The tranquility of this sacred refuge enables travelers to reorient themselves and prepare for the journey ahead by providing peace and rejuvenation.

The guiding principles for Rivendell Education align perfectly with the essence of Tolkien’s concept for what Rivendell represents.  This notion is exemplified completely in the following quotes concerning this safe place, which can be found in The Lord of the Rings fantasy novel:

Nurture

Nurture

Nurture

(verb) to care for and protect somebody/something while they are growing and developing

“Evil things do not come into this valley; we are sitting in a fortress...but such was the virtue of the land of Rivendell that soon all fear and anxiety was lifted from their minds…Health and hope grew strong in them, and they were content with each good day as it came, taking pleasure in every meal, and in every word and song.” - J.R.R. Tolkien, The Fellowship of the Ring

Inspire

Nurture

Nurture

(verb) to give somebody the desire, confidence or enthusiasm to do something well

“…people come here who wish for peace, and thought…[then] words took shape, and visions of far lands and bright things that he had never yet imagined opened out before him...Faithless is he that says farewell when the road darkens.” - J.R.R. Tolkien, The Fellowship of the Ring

Empower

Nurture

Empower

(verb) to give somebody more control over their own life or the situation they are in

“Always a bit more to discover, and no knowing what you’ll find round a corner…The might of [Rivendell] is in wisdom not in weapons, it is said…to ask for counsel and the unravelling of hard words...[for] there is much to hear and decide today.” - J.R.R. Tolkien, The Fellowship of the Ring

At Rivendell Education, we recognize that a child sees the world around them with innocence, wonder, and awe.  As a result, it is our obligation to encourage their inquisitive spirit and natural curiosity with love and care.  Our educators nurture every child’s innate abilities and strengths by building their self-esteem and confidence through positive feedback and rewards.  We understand that children, when provided with an effective variety of age-appropriate choices and pursuits, will learn through self-discovery, invention, imagination, and experimentation within an enriched environment.
